Daniel Grant Smith
Murderer Daniel Grant Smith used red nail varnish to daub a chilling confession on the body of his girlfriend after stabbing her to death in a 'ferocious' attack.
After pleading guilty to murder at an earlier hearing, Smith was jailed for life - to serve a minimum period of 17-and-a-half years.
He murdered his girlfriend... then wrote on her body: 'It was me' - a judge told him "you desecrated the body of the woman in an act of cruel triumphalism"
Carl Williamson
Carl Williamson torched a parked car, started a fire under a staircase leading to a flat, and set rubbish bins alight.
Williamson, who committed similar offences in 2013, pleaded guilty to two counts of arson - reckless as to whether life is endangered, two counts of simple arson and a count of attempted arson - and was jailed for five-and-a-half years

A drug addict who stabbed and brutally attacked a stranger in the street - believing he was someone else - was locked up.
Tony Combs was caged for nine years after a judge described a 'vicious and prolonged attack with a highly dangerous weapon'.
Combs pleaded guilty to section 18 wounding and possession of a bladed article at an earlier court hearing.

Stephen Booth
A builder has been jailed for life after hitting his ex 19 times with an axe after finding out she was selling their family home.
Stephen Booth, 64, plotted to kill his ex-wife, healthcare assistant Susan Booth, 62, after learning through his solicitor the family home he had built in Shaw, near Oldham, was to be sold for more than £450,000 within days.
He lay in wait at the home they had shared until their split three years earlier and struck her from behind with an axe when she came home from a shift at Royal Oldham Hospital.
She suffered catastrophic injuries and died a short time after being rushed back to the hospital where she worked.
Booth was handed a life sentence and told he would a serve a minimum 22-and-a-half years behind bars after he pleaded guilty to murder.

Raymond Roe
The victim of a depraved rapist who abused her when she was a young girl has spoken of her 'torture' after he was jailed for 20 years.
Raymond Roe, 50, abused and raped the girl when she was of primary school age.
Roe was jailed for 20 years, of which he must serve two thirds in prison before he is released on licence.

John Paul Grimshaw
A dad was jailed after breaking another man's jaw with a hammer outside a restaurant in Prestwich.
John Paul Grimshaw, 32, left his victim with a double-fracture in his jaw after striking him with a lump hammer outside Mister Ali's Tandoori Restaurant on July 4 last year.
Grimshaw, from Blackley , was jailed for three years and nine months after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm.

Hayley Booth
Fraudster Hayley Booth, who won't stop targeting kind-hearted pensioners with her lies, was jailed for more than four years.
Booth, 30, was given a chance to change her ways after being sentenced for burglary and fraud offences in May.
She was given a 14 month suspended prison sentence and told to keep out of trouble.
But just four days later she was re-offending, Minshull Street Crown Court heard.
Booth, of Whitehead Crescent, Bury, targeted three women and a man in the Brandlesholme area of Bury to trick them out of cash.
Booth pleaded guilty to four fraud offences and burglary and was sentenced to three years imprisonment and the judge activated the earlier 14 month suspended sentence to run consecutively.

Christopher Manning
Big-time drug dealer Christopher Manning was jailed after police raided his home and found heroin, cocaine and a Glock self-loading pistol.
Manning was jailed for eight years after he pleaded guilty to possessing a prohibited firearm, possessing ammunition without a certificate, possessing class A and class B drugs and money laundering.
He used to work as a window cleaner... but became a big time drug dealer - and was found with two kilos of heroin, cocaine and a pistol
Andrew Pearson
Manchester funeral director Andrew Pearson was jailed after he stole cash donations collected at five different funerals.
Pearson, 53, had arranged and conducted each of the funerals, and personally oversaw the collections for the different charities, including Macmillan Cancer support.
The total amount taken is unknown.
Pearson pleaded guilty earlier this year to five offences of theft and has now been jailed for 12 months.

Craig Prestage
Craig Prestage told an undercover police officer posing as a 12-year-old girl that they could meet up before lockdown ended as 'not as many people would see them'.
Prestage pleaded guilty to offences of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity and making indecent photos.
He was jailed for seven years and three months.

Aiden Corbishley
A man who raped two girls when he was a teenager was jailed for over nine years.
Aiden Corbishley, 28, had committed the offences when he was between the ages of 16 and 17.
On the second day of his trial, Corbishley pleaded guilty to two offences of rape, assaulting a girl under 13, causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and being an offender under the age of 18 engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.
Corbishley, of Arundel Avenue, Flixton, was jailed for nine and a half years, of which he will have to serve two thirds of his sentence - six years and two months.

Mohammed Fareed and Faisal Fareed
A father and son who were part of a gang which lured unsuspecting car buyers into terrifying robberies have been jailed for more than 30 years.
Mohammed Fareed, 47, was sentenced to 20 years and his son Faisal Farid, 25, was handed a 12 year sentence.

Thomas Morton
Convicted paedophile Thomas Morton posed as a schoolgirl online to urge young boys to send indecent pictures of themselves -before posting them in an online paedophile ring.
Morton, of Bury , pleaded guilty to three different indictments: 1: Three counts of making indecent images; one count of distributing indecent images; 17 counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity; 2: One count of breach of sexual harm prevention order; 3: Three counts of making indecent photographs of children.
He was jailed for 10 years with an extended period of six years on licence.

Natalie Lord
Natalie Lord, 44, had stabbed her ex in the past before attacking him again in September 2019.
Her victim suffered a 2cm cut to his left temple and another head injury plus chest scratches, teeth marks on his chest and bruising to his hand.
Lord, of Irlam Square, Salford, was jailed for 27 months at Manchester Crown Court after admitting grievous bodily harm (GBH).

Christopher Darcy
Former soldier Christopher Darcy smashed a wine glass in a stranger's face on New Year's Eve in an unprovoked attack.
The man was left with a 6cm cut to his cheek and a 7cm cut to his neck, Minshull Street Crown Court heard.
Darcy, of Huddersfield, pleaded guilty on the day of his trial to an offence of wounding with intent.
Darcy, of Somerset Road, was jailed for three and a half years.

'Small-time' drug dealer Joshua Hargreaves attacked a customer with a meat cleaver after he woke him at 8am asking for cannabis.
Hargreaves pleaded guilty to two offences of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.
He was jailed for 16 months.

Sam Mountney
Sam Mountney battered his ex-partner after accusing her of speaking to other men - she was left feeling 'worthless' and 'unable to trust another man'.
Mountney pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was jailed for 27 months.

Elliot Foster
A man who 'lost his head' was jailed for his part in a high-value car robbery gang which saw an Audi, BMW and limited edition Fiat stolen in a number of burglaries.
Elliot Foster, 24, handled six stolen cars, believed to be worth around £84,000 in total, and advertised them for sale on social media.
But Foster was caught out after police found photos of the stolen keys and a video of himself driving in one of the stolen cars.
He was working alongside former fugitive Cody Lowndes, 22, who sparked a huge manhunt after escaping custody.
Foster, of Stalybridge, pleaded guilty to seven offences of handling stolen goods, and two separate, unrelated offences - criminal damage and sending malicious communications.
He was jailed for four years and nine months.

Dale Bailey
A judge told a thug who attacked two women with a machete that he should be 'utterly appalled' as he jailed him for eight years.
Dale Bailey, 25, broke into a flat in Warwick Street, Leigh, at around 2am on October 19, 2020.
He then attacked flatmates Wendi Reynolds and Lisa Rigby with a machete, a court heard.

Stephen Turnock
Stephen Turnock stabbed his girlfriend in the neck while she lay half asleep in bed after they had argued about a Snoop Dogg song.
After launching the 'appalling' attack on the mum in her own home, 40-year-old Turnock shaved some of her hair off, threw an iron and an Xbox at her and sprayed deodorant in her mouth.
Turnock, of Clyde Street, Oldham, who has previous convictions including for affray and violent disorder, admitted wounding with intent.
He was jailed for four years.

Aaron Murray
Aaron Murray broke into a family home through the kitchen window was wrestled to the ground - and lost his t-shirt in the process.
Murray, of Openshaw, pleaded guilty to an offence of burglary and was jailed for 18 months.

John Duckworth
John Duckworth hurled a pint pot in his ex-girlfriend's face during a drunken bust-up.
The woman was left with a deep wound, from her lip to her chin, which needed 80 to 90 stitches. She was also left with injuries to her eyelid and eye.
Duckworth, from Bolton, pleaded guilty to section 18 wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
He was jailed for five-and-a-half years.

Convicted killer Anthony Ellis subjected his girlfriend to a prolonged assault, before telling her that 'next time' he would murder her.
Anthony Ellis was convicted of manslaughter in 2014, following the death of 18-year-old John Muldowney at a party in Wythenshawe, in 2010.
He was jailed for four years.

Paedophile hunters snared a pervert in Piccadilly Gardens after he planned to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex.
David Barnes, 59, was 'humiliated' when he arrived, having expected to be met by the 'girl' he had groomed online.

He pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, and attempting to meet a child following grooming.
A judge accepted it was an 'aberration' for Barnes, but said it was 'very serious' offence and jailed him for 16 months.

Power was jailed for 16 months, after admitting affray, two counts of section 47 assault, and eight counts of battery.

Stanney was jailed for a total of two years and three months.

Jackson, now 21, pleaded guilty to an offence of section 18 grievous bodily harm and was jailed for five years.

Aaron Melville
Aaron Melville was jailed after police raided his home and found guns, ammunition and orders for more weapons.
Officers from the Serious and Organised Crime Group of Greater Manchester Police raided Melville's home in Buxton on December 1 last year.
Inside his home on Walker Brow cops found: several homemade weapons; a revolver which was examined and found to be a modified revolver; a dismantled handgun; a number of rounds of ammunition in the process of being converted from blank firing to illegal ammunition; and a number of tools.
The 21-year-old was jailed for five years and seven months at Manchester Crown Court after he pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and ammunition.

A 'courageous' passer-by was repeatedly stabbed after trying to stop three men from being robbed in Bolton town centre, a court heard.
Patrick Cullen and accomplice Regan Sharples have now both been jailed for their roles in the vicious knife attack.
Cullen, of no fixed abode, has been sentenced to nine years and nine months in prison, for four robbery offences, wounding with intent, attempted robbery, and possession of a knife in a public place. He admitted to all of the offences.
Sharples was sentenced to six years in prison for four robbery offences, unlawful wounding, attempted robbery, and possession of a knife in a public place. He also admitted the offences.

Jonathan Diba Musangu
An ex-Rochdale AFC footballer has been jailed for 24 years after being convicted of raping and sexually abusing a number of girls.
Jonathan Diba Musangu, 23, abused the girls, some who were as young as seven, over a five-year period.
Minshull Street Crown Court heard that he exploited his 'popularity and advantage' to commit 'dreadful' acts of sexual abuse against children for his own sexual gratification.
Following a lengthy trial in June and July this year, Musangu, of Chadderton, was found guilty of three counts of raping a child under 13, two counts of sexually assaulting a child under 13, two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, three counts of sexual activity with a child, and two counts of rape.
He admitted offences of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and possession of extreme pornography at an earlier hearing.
Musangu was jailed for 24 years with an extended licence period of four years.

Reece Gilbert attacked two workmen with a broken bottle as they carried out work on a house - and then came back with a machete.
Gilbert, who was said to have an 'appalling criminal record', pleaded guilty to affray and possession of a bladed article.
He was jailed for 18 months.

Shaheed Virmani
A 'top-ranking' cocaine and cannabis dealer from Salford has been locked up.
'Main player' Shaheed Virmani, from Swinton, supplied 'large amounts' to the gang's Spain-based leader, Usman Akhter, and also received drugs back from him.
Twelve people - including Akhter and Virmani - have now been jailed for a combined total of more than 60 years.
Virmani, 28, of Warren Drive, was jailed for 11 years for conspiracy to supply cocaine and cannabis.
Akhter - from Darwen - got 13 years.

Aaron Plummer
Aaron Plummer was caught with drugs hidden in his backside after being pulled over by the police.
The 33-year-old was caught peddling cocaine in the city centre in his Audi in August this year.
After being pulled over, he was seen putting his hand into his underpants, Manchester Crown Court heard.
Following a strip search, officers found 12 wraps of cocaine concealed between his buttocks.
He was also found with £330 in cash and an iPhone with evidence of drug dealing.
Plummer pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs and was jailed for 28 months.

Muhammad Ahmed
A 'much-loved' grandma was killed by a speeding drug driver who attempted a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre because he was 'impatient', a court heard.
Muhammad Ahmed, 25, admitted causing the death of 73-year-old Sonia Adams by dangerous driving.
Judge Baxter sentenced Ahmed to 32 months in custody and disqualified him from driving for five years.

A pervert who used a secret 'shoe camera' to film 'upskirt' videos of schoolgirls has been jailed.
Paul Mountain, 46, also hid a camera in a bathroom to record footage of a woman on the toilet, a court heard.
Mountain, of Trentham Avenue, Farnworth, Bolton, pleaded guilty to voyeurism and making indecent images of children.
A judge jailed him for 13 and a half months for making indecent images, and four and a half months for voyeurism.

Moneeb Arshad was jailed for 32 months for killing a mother as she crossed the road.
Arshad, of Stanford Street in Rochdale, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving a week before a trial was due to begin.
Halema Akhtar was crossing Yorkshire Street when she was hit at a pedestrian crossing.
She did not wait for the lights to change before stepping out.
The defendant had continued to drive, the court heard.

A coked-up 'coward' followed a woman into a pub's ladies toilets and sexually assaulted her.
Manuel Carvajal, of Wythenshawe, was convicted following a trial of sexual assault and was jailed for six years with an extended licence period of three years.

Ryan Hughes
Joyrider Ryna Hughes was jailed for 12 years after his dangerous driving killed a taxi driver and seriously injured both his passengers.
Minshull Street Crown Court heard that he was trying to 'impress his friends' but was driving at excessive speed, without a licence or insurance.
Hughes, of Rowland Way in Oldham, was convicted of death by driving unlicensed and uninsured, causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving and sentenced to 12 years in jail.
He was disqualified from driving for 16 years and must sit an extended driving retest.

A man stabbed an old pal during a bust-up at a wake - before cops found a revolver and cocaine in his bag when they searched his girlfriend's house.
Covi Henry, 37, knifed his friend during the attack on May 29, 2020, and left him bleeding heavily from a serious neck wound.
Henry, of Furness Avenue in Oldham, was convicted of wounding with intent; possessing a prohibited firearm; possessing ammunition without a firearm certificate; possessing ammunition while prohibited; and possessing a firearm when prohibited.
He was jailed for 12 years.

A gang of knife-wielding robbers stole a mum's car as she desperately tried to protect her child.
Courtney Slater and her partner Brandon Higgins were attacked in Gorton, after he had arranged to sell two pairs of Louis Vuitton sunglasses and a manbag on Snapchat.
They had been lured to the scene as part of a pre-planned robbery.
Tyrese Chisholm, 18, Brandon Smith, 21, and Kaydn Jones, 19, have now all been locked up.
Chisholm, then 17 and now 18, the ringleader of the gang, was sentenced to four years in a young offender's institution.
Jones, who also brandished a knife, was sentenced to three years and eight months. While Smith, who was not armed, was jailed for three years and four months.

Yasmin Tattersall
A 'shameless and devious' daughter with a gambling addiction nicked about £20,000 from her elderly father's estate - and blew it on slot machines.
Yasmin Tattersall, 57, was caring for her now deceased 81-year-old father over a three-year period.
She was in charge of his debit car - and emptied her dad's account of his life savings.
Tattersall, of Partington Street, Rochdale, admitted theft and has now been jailed for six months.

Daniel Herbert was jailed after his dog attacked a young woman on Christmas day, leaving her lip 'hanging off'.

Herbert, of Councillor Lane, was jailed for 24 weeks and banned from owning a dog for 10 years.

Jonathan Hopkinson and William Thompson
Two school friends, Jonathan Hopkinson and William Thompson, were caught sleeping in their car when the police came knocking - before being caught dealing cocaine.
Both Hopkinson and Thompson pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs and were both jailed.
Hopkinson, of Hollin Lane, was jailed for 28 months; and Thompson, of Gregge Street, was jailed for 32 months.

A man and a woman have been jailed after a 'defenceless' baby suffered a serious brain injury and fractured ribs during at least two 'shaking' incidents.
Ryan Briody, 35, and Rebecca Stott, 29, were found guilty of two counts of causing or allowing the serious physical harm of a child following a trial at Minshull Street Crown Court.
Judge Maurice Green sentenced both Briody and Stott to 27 months in prison.

Loftus, 38, was involved in importing tens of kilos of heroin and cocaine from Holland into the UK through Liverpool.

Jonathon Ramsbottom, from Heywood , hit a bicycle being ridden by 54-year-old Stephen White on the morning of May 9 last year.
Mr White suffered serious injuries in the collision, which happened on Burnley Road in Todmorden, West Yorkshire .
Despite the best efforts of medics, Mr White died in hospital a short time later.
He was charged with causing death by driving without due care while unfit through drugs and appeared at Leeds Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty.

On October 1, 2020, UK border police intercepted a package being delivered from Belgium to a storage unit at Wheatfield Industrial Estate in Royton via the Channel Tunnel.
Some 15 packages of drugs each weighing 1kg were found inside the parcel, containing 6kg of cocaine and 9kg of cocaine and all equalling an estimated street value of around £1.5 million.
Jackson-Westwood pleaded guilty to the conspiracy to import cocaine, conspiracy to import heroin and the possession of a prohibited weapon and was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.

Ryan Wall recruited and used three vulnerable children from Greater Manchester to sell crack cocaine and heroin in Blackpool.
His co-conspirator, Christopher Thornton, also used a child as a runner to peddle Class A drugs and had his own side operation selling from a separate phone line.
Both men admitted modern slavery offences after exploiting the children for their drugs enterprise.
Wall and Thornton, 20, were jailed for nine years and eight years respectively.

A prison officer who became 'obsessed' with a convicted rapist after they met in jail started an 'intense' relationship after he was released and became pregnant with his child.
Kade Sibthorpe, 29, quickly became violent and abusive towards her, even allegedly punching her in the stomach while she was pregnant, and taking her on a 'drive up to the moors'.
The pregnancy was later terminated, and she claimed she had lost her baby as a result of his actions.
But a court heard there was no medical evidence to support this and Sibthorpe was not prosecuted for it.
'Manipulative' Sibthorpe, from Salford, has now been jailed for controlling and coercive behaviour for his 'deplorable' behaviour over a four month period after he was released.

Turner lost control on Station Road, Kirkham , and mounted the pavement, hitting Gabriel and sending him flying onto a nearby grassed area, before the car collided with a tree.
Gabriel suffered multiple serious injuries and died a short time later

A jury found Noormohammed Yusuf, who denied he was racing his brother, not guilty of causing the death of Mr Smith by dangerous driving and instead convicted him of dangerous driving.
Hanzah Yusuf pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.
Yusuf, of Park Lane, was jailed for four years and disqualified from driving for five years and must take an extended retest.
Noormohammed Yusuf, also of Park Lane, was handed an 18 month community order, 200 hours unpaid work and was disqualified from driving for 18 months.

As he entered alongside two others, Levi Murray, 19, and a third man, they proceeded to attack a group of young men in front of horrified customers, including small children, and staff.
Gordon, of Crumpsall, was jailed for 22-and-a-half months and was made the subject of a criminal behaviour order banning him from going to the retail area or associating with the third defendant for three years.
Murray was sentenced to 20 months custody for affray, 12 months for criminal damage and 12 months for having an offensive weapon to be served concurrently.

After warning him that if he continued she'd seek a restraining order, Shamin threatened to 'burn down her house with her daughter in it' if she went through with it.

Three teenagers have been locked up after a vulnerable dad was lured to a canal before being stabbed 35 times and dumped in the water.
Liam Bailey, 19 and Harry Maher, 16, were convicted of murder after a five-week trial at Manchester Crown Court, while 17-year-old Liam O'Brien was found guilty of manslaughter.
Scott Anderton, 33, was taken to a secluded spot by the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, in Leigh, in the early hours of March 25.
After he was assaulted for around 30 seconds, he was left for dead in the canal, and his body was recovered by emergency services later that day.
Maher, of Green Lane, Standish, was jailed for life and must serve at least 16 years before he is eligible for parole, while O'Brien, of Schofield Street, Leigh, was jailed for 10 years.
Bailey, 19, of Diamond Street, Leigh, had already pleaded guilty to murdering Mr Anderton and was handed a life sentence of at least 23 years four months.
Bailey and O'Brien were also sentenced for their involvement in an assault on September 1 last year, which left a man with serious injuries, including a traumatic brain injury.

Lewis Creighton, 27, split one shopkeeper's head open with a machete while his accomplice Joshua Anderson, 19, helped him to rob a shop in Lowton.
The pair emptied the till and stole three bottles of vodka from Mini Market, in Newton Road.
Both men pleaded guilty to four counts of robbery. Creighton also pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article.
Creighton was sentenced to seven years and four months imprisonment, while Anderson was jailed for six years.

Mujtaba Saeed-Ahmed, 22, slashed at his victim following a bust-up.
Saeed-Ahmed, of Halliwell Lane, Cheetham Hill, was jailed for a total of seven years after pleading guilty to wounding with intent; possession of a blade; and being in breach of a suspended sentence.
Drug dealer launched horrifying machete attack in the street after bragging that Cheetham Hill was 'his area'

A series of incriminating messages led the police to an array of blank-firing guns that had been converted into deadly weapons.
Mark McNamara, 28, had been exchanging messages with his then-girlfriend about the firearms he had bought from Bury Airguns.
These were later recovered on his girlfriend's phone following a search of his home in Oldham, wherein officers also found two guns, one of which had been converted to be able to fire live-ammunition.
His messages also referred to another man, Corey Atkinson, 26, who had bought metal poles which were to be used to modify the guns.
Atkinson's house, also in Oldham, was searched and officers found five further guns, ammunition and a cannabis farm.
Both men pleaded guilty to conspiracy to sell/transfer firearms and ammunition; and conspiracy to convert imitation firearms into prohibited weapons.
Atkinson, of Farm Road, was jailed for 12 years, and McNamara, of Bankfield Drive, was jailed for eight years, both of which will have to serve two thirds of their sentence before their release.

His abuse became more frequent and severe and went on for many years, the court heard.
Blades, of Oldham, whipped her with a coat hanger, forced her into scalding hot water, burnt her with an iron and even put cigarettes out on her, the court heard.
Following a trial, Blades was found guilty of making threats to kill, two counts of GBH, seven counts of ABH, indecent assault, two counts of rape, cruelty to a person under 16 years old and controlling and coercive behaviour.
He was jailed for 25 years with an extended period on licence of eight years.

A judge said evil Fosbrook treated Holly, 23, as 'nothing more than an object to satisfy [his] demands'.
Their relationship, he added, was 'characterised by physical and psychological abuse on a regular basis' on his part.
Fosbrook, of Hanover Towers in Lancashire Hill, Stockport, is now starting a three-year prison sentence after admitting a charge of coercive and controlling behaviour.

A primary school deputy headteacher from Wigan has been jailed after admitting to a string of sexual offences against a girl under the age of 13.
Julie Morris, 44, pleaded guilty to two counts of raping a child under 13, as well as nine counts of causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, three counts of taking indecent images of a child, two counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child under 13, possessing indecent images of a child and sexual communication with a child.
Her depraved boyfriend, 52-year-old David Morris, was also jailed after pleading guilty to 34 offences, including seven counts of raping a child under 13.
Judge Andrew Menary QC handed Julie Morris a custodial term of 13 years and four months, while sentencing David Morris to 16 years custody.
